DJ Dutty Harry:
"There wasn't any great spark of inspiration or great moment that made me want to spin records", says a modest DJ Dutty Harry, "I was just always around that culture and there was always decks around to play with. The only logical step in life was to get my own pair of decks and getting that first piece of vinyl to start your record collection off right." Those that know DJ Dutty Harry would say that he is obsessed with mixing to perfection, and everybody in the party scene knows that DJ Dutty Harry knows how to get the rudebwoys jumping, and rudegyals dem throwing thier shirts off. "Yeah, mate, I watch videos and news shows all the time before any show. Videos from previous parties in any city I spin in, to best catch the best vibes of the crowds I will be playing for. A lot of dj's just pack thier crates the night before. They throw in the top 40 tunes, a few of thier boys' dubs, kiss the main act's ass, and think that'll take them to the top. But the game right now is flooded, and for me, it's never 'ight to just do the bare minimum. Some cities, they generally have a love of jump up, for others it might be some wobble shit, or straight booty, or heavy scratching, hiphop samples, pure blunt tunes ... and thier flavour can change at the drop of a needle depending on the crowd, or whether the promoters have thier drinks priced too high that night, or anything you might imagine." When the UK "bass" DJ Dutty Harry was asked about his upcoming show in Toronto with a mystery fellow UK performer to replace the M.I.A. emcee Revelation, he replied with, "Toronto? No, mate, I've never been there before. I've been to Montreal, Vancouver, New York and Buffalo, but this will my first show in Toronto. I keep in touch with Toronto's Phatural Emcee and some of his cru whom I've met and see whenever they perform in the UK. They fill me in on what to bring to the tables when I drop in Toronto, what the venue is gonna be like, shit like that, mate." And with a modest smile, DJ Dutty Harry's eyes lit up when asked if he knew anybody else in Toronto, "Yeah, mate. My grandfather-in-law and my grandmother-in-law lives with y'all in Toronto. My wifey and I just had a beautiful baby boy, our beautiful first child. Lil' Jonathan. Born June 8th, 5 lbs 3 oz. 3 months old. They're going to love seeing thier beautiful great-grandson and they're going to love seeing the beautiful mother thier granddaughter has become." |
